Sandwiched between spectacular Lake Murray and downtown Columbia, SC, Lexington is a booming city in South Carolina. It is centrally located in the middle of the state so traveling just about anywhere in South Carolina is a breeze. Lexington boasts a population of over 220,000 residents and is part of the metropolitan state capital area of Columbia. This is a sophisticated community offering the glorious recreational opportunities at Lake Murray, highly regarded schools, a charming historic downtown district and is also the County Seat meaning all the county government jobs are located within the heart of Lexington.

Noted for its pretty terrain and convenient location it is no wonder that the population in Lexington has skyrocketed in the 1990’s through today. It offers the convenience not only of its own downtown district but also to downtown Columbia which is but a 25-35 minute commute away. New shops, stores and businesses have moved into the area offering residents more amenities and job opportunities. Lexington and Northeast Columbia are the two fastest growing areas in this region. Yet housing prices presently remain affordable but this is fast changing. Prices have steadily climbed and this trend shall hopefully continue.

Lexington abuts Lake Murray which is a gorgeous Lake with over 550 miles of lake shore line! It is one of the most popular lakes in the entire state of South Carolina. Lake enthusiasts can enjoy boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, jet-skiing, picnicking, along with camping and nature hiking on Dreher Island in the middle of the lake. No matter where you are in Lexington you are but a short walk or drive to this lake. Retirees love this area for the obvious reasons as do persons and families looking for a beautiful yet affordable area in which to live.

This central South Carolina area has seen marked population increases. The US Census Bureau reports the population of greater Columbia, SC is expected to double by 2025. A big portion of this metropolitan area is Lexington.

Lots on the lake have risen in value considerably. For buyers who want lakefront property, the lots alone (no houses) begin around $175,000 and can go up to $500,000 or more depending on view and water frontage. Most of the investment homes we sell are a 10-15 minute drive to the lake and typically begin around $120,000 and go up (notice this may change from the time of this writing. The area offers town homes and single family homes in areas that were once rural near the lake that have transformed into beautiful new home developments with outstanding amenities.
