Charlotte is the center of the nation's fifth largest urban area.
The city of Charlotte, according the Chamber of Commerce, has a
population of about 580,000 and it has an astounding 6.7 million
people living within a 100 mile radius. Consider the interesting
fact that this radius population exceeds Miami's 5.6 million and
the 2.6 million around Memphis.
During the past ten years, 8,928 new companies invested about $7.4 billion in new Charlotte facilities. In addition, 286 of the Fortune 500 companies have facilities here, eight of which are headquartered in Charlotte. It is primarily a banking city with $970 Billion in assets, making it the second largest financial center in the nation, behind only New York.
The
housing market remains exceptionally strong in 2003 according to
the "Real Estate Report" published by the Charlotte area Chamber
of Commerce. To quote the report, "Despite the run up in prices,
there is no evidence of a housing bubble. Prices are up because
inventories are low and demand remains strong." Plus, their forecast
calls for the creation of between 16,000 and 20,000 new jobs this
year. At the time of this publishing the unemployment rate is approximately
in the 5% range.
Nearby communities and suburbs (some just across the SC border,
as Charlotte is a border city) such as Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Tega
Cay and others benefit immensely from the explosive growth of Charlotte.
With the expansion of jobs, influx of business dollars and population,
Charlotte and its suburbs offer an exceptional real estate investment
